This nifty device could help provide poorer countries with access to clean water. I thought it was neat.

College Students who work on these houses over the 2 years spend extensive amounts of timing and money on planning to place there homes on the mall in DC. If Obama wants sustainability and transformations in energy use, he should refuse this space to these houses.. They should be used for education in science and engineering in sustainable housing.

In Hong Kong, because of the space, apartments are small and expensive. Gary Chang, an architect, decided to design a 344 sq. ft. apartment to be able to change into 24 different designs, all by just sliding panels and walls. He calls this the "Domestic Transformer."

The wall units, which are suspended from steel tracks bolted into the ceiling, seem to float an inch above the reflective black granite floor. As they are shifted around, the apartment becomes all manner of spaces -- kitchen, library, laundry room, dressing room, a lounge with a hammock, an enclosed dining area and a wet bar.

This is a great website that has partnered with the USGBC to create a extensive "Playbook" for Green Developments. It is broken into three parts: Green Buildings, Green Neighborhoods, and Green Infrastructure. It provides strategies, tips, and tools for governments to apply sustainability in the aspects of urban development.

This is the main page :

This is the page that specifically relates to neighborhoods:

Enviroboard is an eco-friendly, ready-made house construction system used to help temporarily displaced persons in a way that also benefits the earth. The company's products, like plant-based drywall, are very innovative.

    http://inhabitat.com/prefab-sustainable-housing-made-from-recycled-shipping-containers/

An article on prefabricated housing. The form of construction discussed is not only sustainable (built from old shipping containers), but it is also easy to ship and construct in a relatively short period of time. The houses are also quite small and thus leave a small ecological footprint.

    http://www.usgbc.org/

This is the website of the U.S. Green Building Council. They are essentially in charge of many LEED building construction standards and rankings. The website contains articles and press releases containing information on LEED design, such buildings in the US, and other specifics around the world.

These types of houses can float so if another hurricane hits New Orleans the houses can float in the storm surge and floods and not be destroyed.
