At www.mta.me, Conductor turns the New York subway system into an interactive string instrument. Using the MTA’s actual subway schedule, the piece begins in realtime by spawning trains which departed in the last minute, then continues accelerating through a 24 hour loop. The visuals are based on Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 diagram (http://www.visualcomplexity.com/vc/project.cfm?id=266).

ReplyDeleteThe photos show things that are out of place in a city that grab ones attention. This reminded me of the discussion we had on laying on the sidewalk and an officer coming up and putting an end to the "out of order-ness" in the city. It also continues the debate about how sidewalks are built for the public but are we really that free on them?
